Annika + Brandon

Annika and Brandon’s mid- June wedding at the Merrimon-Wynne house was styled perfection. Annika was one of the most beautiful brides we’ve ever seen and the lace detail on the back of her gown was to die for. The Merrimon-Wynne House is such a gem in the heart of downtown Raleigh serving as the perfect venue for this summer soiree.

Magnolia’s are in our top three of flowers for their timeless beauty and southern roots. In fact we think historic homes and magnolia leaves are always a good idea!

Nothing like a vintage heirloom to get our heart aflutter.

When planning an outdoor ceremony simplicity is key. Chairs and an elegant arbor are all you need to set the space; and for an outdoor wedding we love programs that double as fans.

Seriously still swooning over this dress! Annika and Brandon we wish you a lifetime of love, happiness, and laughter. Thank you for choosing us for your most special day!

Sarah + Will

We in the wedding industry are very into details, and this wedding in particular does not disappoint. This wedding has such personality and you can see it shine through each and every detail perfectly chosen by this super stylish Bride and Groom. For instance, the blue toothbrushes favors were a hit because Will is a dental student. You also have to see Sarah’s something blue. We just love heirloom jewelry and when it comes in sapphires, forget it we are smitten! Our bride Sarah had such amazing taste that every inch of her wedding was perfection.

Sarah and Will chose to have a daytime wedding, ceremony was at 11 am, and their wedding is a great example of how sweet a daytime wedding can be. Not sure about a daytime wedding? Think of it this way, rather than spending the whole day apart, having an early ceremony allows you to spend the most important day of your life with the one you love. Not to mention it’s a much less stuffy option if you are more fun-loving and social. Bonus?! It’s cost effective.

Now, the rain did spoil our plans a little but hey, the weather here can be a bit unpredictable here in the summer. Not to worry though we always have a back up plan and our bride had a great pair of Hunter wellies ready to go. Engagement Photos

Engagement photos are one of the first things you may do after getting engaged. They shouldn’t be a chore or something to stress about. Engagement photos should be fun! You’ll have plenty of staged and formal photos at the wedding so why not shake things up a little and think outside “the box” for your engagement photos. Megan and Evan’s picnic themed shoot is the perfect example of this. Otherwise known as an event shoot these types of photos are when your photographer shadows you; as you go on a date, cook, do a favorite hobby, whatever the possibilities are endless!

Use your engagement photos as your trial run for the wedding to work out the kinks. Get to know your photographer and their style. Listen to their ideas and direction- they know best! And if you aren’t comfortable or feel they aren’t the right fit this is the time to make a change.

Check out the photos below from the talented Casey Rose Photography of one of our beautiful couples Megan + Evan. I mean how adorable is that picnic basket?!

We love the picnic theme they went with and of course choosing a beautiful location such as the Arboretum always helps to make pictures more interesting.Adding props to your photos or choosing action shots can make things a little less awkward and posed. But make sure to throw in some posed photos too- those are the ones Mom will want!

Now, lets talk fashion. Try not to be too matchy matchy with your fiancé. Choose color and prints to give some visual interest to your photos. Or choose white like our beautiful bride Megan, you are the bride after all. Next, make sure you are comfortable. You’ll be happier and excited with the end result if you can move in your outfit and nothing is more frustrating than a bride or groom fidgeting with their clothes.

In the end, engagement photos should be a reflection of you- the couple- and your likes and hobbies. Remember to shake things up and do something fun and visually interesting, there is plenty of time for staged photos at the wedding. And lastly, rely on your photographer to tell you what will work and what doesn’t.

As always, we here at Sally Oakley Weddings & Events are ready to help! Give us a call, we’d love to help you plan your engagement photos.
