One of the most important decisions you will make for your wedding is the choosing of the venue. The venue sets the tone for your big day and can describe who you are as a couple. Not to mention, the venue generally takes up a good chunk of your budget so it should be the perfect fit for you as a couple.

At Sally Oakley Personalized Wedding Planning we are constantly working with amazing venues and can help you find your perfect fit!

When choosing a venue consider the importance of using one venue for the ceremony and the reception. Or would you prefer a separate venue for the ceremony and the reception?

We recently worked with the Carolina Inn. We love the Carolina Inn for their top notch service, knowledgeable staff, tasty food, central location and gorgeous space. Plus, the Carolina Inn is a venue that can accommodate the ceremony and the reception. This is an added bonus for out of town guests.

Also, consider the size of your guest list in proportion to the venue size. There is nothing worse than having too many people crammed into a small venue! Make sure to consider the following: is there space enough for your guests to eat, drink, sit, and dance.

The ballroom at the Carolina Inn offers lots of room for guests to socialize, eat, drink and dance!

 

Another thing to consider when selecting the right venue is your vendors. Will the venue let you choose your vendors or do they supply those services? Do they allow any vendors or have a preferred vendor list? Make sure to ask if you have you heart set on using a certain florist or band.

DIY Details done right!

Everybody knows we at Sally Oakley Personalized Wedding Planning are obsessed with Pinterest and Etsy. A few weekends ago we got to work with a real life DIY couple who could rival anyone on Etsy.com. Meet the new Matt and Erin Selzler. Erin and Matt truly are Do-It-Yourself-ers and we can’t wait to share this wedding with you. Thanks to Sam and Katie Roberts of SK Roberts Photography <http://skroberts.com/>  for giving us the pictures a little early.

Here is the couple and their bridal party, check out their adorable dog Basil! And yes she does have a bandana that matches the wedding party, so cute!

DIY details are great for saving money and making a big impact on your wedding day. But before you go all DIY crazy there are a few things you need to know.
First, the do-it-yourself projects you should undertake:
         1. Your makeup
         2. Your ceremony decor
         3. Your favors
         4. Your invitations, programs and save the dates

 And the ones you should always leave to the professionals:
         1. Your cake
         2. Your photos
         3. Your catering
         4. Wedding Coordination
         5. Your music

The wedding was held at the Stockroom 230, in downtown Raleigh,

and was the perfect backdrop for the couple’s orange, navy and off-white color scheme. The bride and her sister-in law made these fans to hang on the brick walls as decoration. These are great for the bride who isn’t a huge fan of flowers. They incorporate color and texture and can make an industrial space like The Stockroom pop!

Erin and Matt brew their own beer and made sure to bring some for their guest to enjoy. This not only saved them some money but it was also a great way for guests to get to know the couple’s interests better.
The had pint glasses made with their names and wedding date to be the perfect complimentary favor.

How great are these! The bride even made the flags to go inside the glasses.

Once again the bride incorporate DIY details in place of flowers. Erin had her flower girl hold this bouquet of pinwheels. Some other great options are buttons, brooches, and feathers.
The bride also create a flag banner that the groom attached to wooden poles to create a unique and colorful archway for the ceremony.
Lastly, the couple incorporate stones into their ceremony and used stones again as escort cards that guests could keep.
